Verse : 001

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Kaf- Ha-Ya-Ain-Sad.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Kâf¬ Hâ¬Y⬒Aîn¬Sâd. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings].
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Kaf, Ha Ya, ‘Ain, Sad

Eng-Yusuf Ali : Kaf. Ha. Ya. `Ayn. Sad.

Verse : 002

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariyya (Zachariah).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : This is a narration of your Lord’s mercy to His servant Zakariyya,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His Servant Zakariya.

Verse : 003

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : When he called out his Lord (Allâh) a call in secret.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When he called his Lord in a low voice.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Behold! He cried to his Lord in secret

Verse : 004

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He said: “My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “My Lord, I am in a state that bones in my body have turned feeble, and the head has flared up grey with old age, and I never remained, My Lord, unanswered in my prayer to You.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Praying: “O my Lord! Infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee!

Verse : 005

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And Verily, I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : I fear (my) kinsmen after me, and my wife is barren, so bless me with an heir, from Your own side,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself―

Verse : 006

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Yaqub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya’qûb (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not wealth). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Who inherits me and inherits the house of Ya‘qub. And make him, My Lord, a favourite one.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!”

Verse : 007

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh said) “O Zakariyya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, Whose name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him).”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Allah said) “O Zakariyya, We give you the good news of a boy whose name is Yahya. We did not create any one before him of the same name.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; we have given the same name to none before (him).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (His prayer was answered): “O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: his name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before.”

Verse : 008

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He said: “My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He Said, “My Lord, how shall there be a boy for me while my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme of old age?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He said: “O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?”

Verse : 009

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He said: “So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “So it is; your Lord said ‘it is easy for Me, and I did create you before, when you were nothing.’”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He said: “So (it will be): thy Lord saith, `That is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!’ “

Verse : 010

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : [Zakariyya (Zachariah)] said: “My Lord! Appoint for me a sign.” He said: “Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “My Lord, make for me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not (be able to) speak to the people for three (consecutive) nights, even though you will be sound in health.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (Zakariya) said “O my Lord! Give me a Sign.” “Thy Sign”, was the answer “shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb.”

Verse : 011

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrâb (a praying place or a private room), he told them by signs to glorify Allâh’s Praises in the morning and in the afternoon.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then he came out to his people from the place of prayer, and directed them by gestures to proclaim the purity of Allah at morning and evening.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So Zakariya came out to his people from his chamber: he told them by signs to celebrate Allah’s praises in the morning and in the evening.

Verse : 012

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O Yahya! se hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (It was said to his son): “O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah)].” And We gave him wisdom while yet a child.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When the child was born, Allah said to him,) “O Yahya, hold on to the Book firmly.” And We gave him wisdom, while he was still a child,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (To his son came the command): “O Yahya! Take hold of the Book with might”: and We gave him wisdom even as a youth.

Verse : 013

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And (blessed him with) love from our own, and purity; and he was God-fearing,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And pity (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: he was devout

Verse : 014

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And duteous unto his parents, and Was not high-handed rebel.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allâh or to his parents).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And he was good to his parents; and he was not oppressive (or) disobedient.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious.

Verse : 015

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And Salâm (peace) be on him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he will be raised up to life (again)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Peace on him the day he was born, the day he dies and the day he will be raised alive.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)!

Verse : 016

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And mention thou in the Book Maryam, what time the retired from her people to a place eastward.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân, O Muhammad SAW , the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mention in the Book (the story of) Maryam, when she secluded herself from her people to a place towards East,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East.

Verse : 017

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then she took beside them a curtain; then We sent unto her Our Spirit, and he took unto her the form of a human being sound.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibril (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then she used a barrier to hide herself from them. Then, We sent to her Our Spirit, (Jibra’il) and he took before her the form of a perfect human being.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our Spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them: then We sent to her Our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects.

Verse : 018

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : She said: verily seek refuge with the Compassionate from thee if thou art God-fearing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : She said: “Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Gracious (Allâh) from you, if you do fear Allâh.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : She said, “I seek refuge with the All-Merciful (Allah) against you, if you are God-fearing.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God-fearing.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : She said: “I seek refuge from thee to (Allah) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah.”

Verse : 019

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: I am but a meenger from thy Lord that I may bestow on thee a boy pure.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (The angel) said: “I am only a messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “I am but a message-bearer of your Lord (sent) to give you a boy, purified.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He said: “Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son.”

Verse : 020

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : She said: in what wise shall there be a boy unto me, whereas not a human being hath touched me, nor have I been a harlot?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : She said: “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : She said, “How shall I have a boy while no human has ever touched me, nor have I ever been unchaste?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : She said: “How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?”

Verse : 021

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is With Me easy, and it is in order that We may make him a sign unto mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is an affair decreed.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He said: “So (it will be), your Lord said: ‘That is easy for Me (Allâh): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allâh), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allâh).’ “
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “So it is; your Lord said, ‘It is easy for Me, and (We will do this) so that We make it a sign for people and a mercy from Us, and this is a matter already destined.’”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a Revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He said: “So (it will be): thy Lord saith `That is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us’: it is a matter (so) decreed.”

Verse : 022

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : When she conceived him, and she retired with him to a place far-off.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So she conceived him[], and she withdrew with him to a far place (i.e. Bethlehem valley about 4-6 miles from Jerusalem).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So she conceived him, and went in seclusion with him to a remote place.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place.

Verse : 023

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then the birth-pangs drave her to the trunk of a palm-tree; she said: would that had died afore this and become forgotten, lost in oblivion!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: “Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then the labour pains brought her to the trunk of a palm-tree. She said “O that I would have died before this, and would have been something gone, forgotten.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: she cried (in her anguish): “Ah! would that I had died before this! Would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!”

Verse : 024

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then one cried unto her from underneath her, that grieve not, thy Lord hath placed underneath thou a rivulet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then [the babe ‘Īsā (Jesus) or Jibril (Gabriel)] cried unto her from below her, saying: “Grieve not! Your Lord has provided a water stream under you;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then he called her from beneath her: “Do not grieve; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): “Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee;

Verse : 025

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And shake toward thee the trunk of the palm-tree it shall drop on thee dates fresh and ripe.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards yourself and, it will drop upon you ripe fresh dates.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And shake the trunk of the palm-tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: it will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.

Verse : 026

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So eat and drink thou, and cool thine eyes; and if thou beholdest the human beings anyone, say: verily I have vowed to the Compassionate a fast, so I shall not speak today to any human being.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “So eat and drink and be glad, And if you see any human being, say: ‘Verily! I have vowed a fast unto the Most Gracious (Allâh) so I shall not speak to any human being this day.'”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So eat, drink and cool your eyes. Then if you see any human being, say (to him), “I have vowed a fast (of silence) for the All-Merciful (Allah,) and therefore, I shall never speak to any human today.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “So eat and drink and cool (thine) eye. And if thou dost see any man say `I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious, and this day will I enter into no talk with any human being.’ “

Verse : 027

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then she brought him to her nation carrying him. They said: Maryam! assuredly thou hast brought a thing unheard Of.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: “O Mary! Indeed you have brought a thing Fariyy (a mighty thing). (Tafsir At-Tabari)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then she came to her people carrying him (the baby). They said, “O Maryam you have committed something grave indeed.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). they said: “O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought!

Verse : 028

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O sister of Harun: thy father was not a man of evil, nor was thy mother a harlot.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “O sister (i.e. the like) of Hârûn (Aaron) []! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : O sister of Harun, neither your father was a man of evil nor was your mother unchaste.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “O sister of Aaron! thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!”

Verse : 029

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then she Pointed to him. They said: how shall we speak to one who is in the cradle, a child?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then she pointed to him. They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?[]”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, she pointed towards him (the baby). They said, “How shall we speak to someone who is still a child in the cradle?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But she pointed to the babe. They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?”

Verse : 030

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He Said: verily I am a bondman of Allah; He hath vouchsafed me the Book and made me a prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “He [‘Īsā (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allâh, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;[]”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Spoke he (the baby), “Verily I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Book, and made me a prophet,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet;

Verse : 031

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And He hath made me blest wheresoever I may be, and enjoined on me the prayer and the poor-rate as long as I am alive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salât (prayer), and Zakât, as long as I live.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And He has made me a blessed one wherever I be, and has enjoined Salah and Zakah upon me as long as I am alive,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and almsgiving so long as I remain alive,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “And He hath made me Blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live;

Verse : 032

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And dutecus Unto my mother, and hath not made me high-handed, unblest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblest.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And (He has made me) good to my mother, and he did not make me oppressive (or) ill-fated.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable;

Verse : 033

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And peace be on me the day was born and the day die and the day I shall be raised up alive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And Salâm (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And peace is upon me the day I was born, the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised alive again.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “So Peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)”!

Verse : 034

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Such is lsa, son of Maryam: this Is the word of truth wherein they are doubting.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Such is ‘Īsā (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). (it is) a statement of truth, about which they doubt (or dispute)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That is ‘Isa, the son of Maryam, to say the truth in which they (Christians) are disputing.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute.

Verse : 035

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Allah is not one to take to Himself a son. Hallowed be He! whensoever He decreeth an affair he only Saith to it: be, and it becometh.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : It befits not (the Majesty of) Allâh that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allâh, by saying that ‘Īsā (Jesus) is the son of Allâh]. Glorified (and Exalted is He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, “Be!” and it is[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It is not for Allah to have a son. Pure is He. When He decides a thing, He simply says to it, “Be” and it comes to be.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it “Be”, and it is.

Verse : 036

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord; so worship Him; this is a way straight.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : [‘Īsā (Jesus) said]: “And verily Allâh is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (Alone). That is the Straight Path. (Allâh’s religion of Islâmic Monotheism which He did ordain for all of His Prophets).” [Tafsir At-Tabarî]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And (O Prophet, say to the people,) “Allah is surely my Lord and your Lord. So, worship Him. This is the straight path.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord: Him therefore serve ye: this is a Way that is straight.

Verse : 037

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then the sects have differed among themselves; so woe to those who disbelieve in the witness of a Day Mighty!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then the sects differed [i.e. the Christians about ‘Īsā (Jesus) A.S.], so woe unto the disbelievers [those who gave false witness by saying that ‘Īsā (Jesus) is the son of Allâh] from the Meeting of a great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection, when they will be thrown in the blazing Fire)[].
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then the groups among them fell in dispute. So, how evil is the fate of the disbelievers when they have to face the Great Day.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : The sects among them differ: but woe unto the disbelievers from the meeting of an awful Day.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But the sects differ among themselves: and woe to the Unbelievers because of the (coming) Judgment of a momentous Day!

Verse : 038

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : How wondrous in their hearing and their sight will they be the Day they come unto Us! But to-day the wrong doers are in error manifest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : How clearly will they (polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) see and hear, the Day when they will appear before Us! But the Zalimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) today are in plain error
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : How strong will their hearing be, and how strong their vision, the day they will come to Us! But today the transgressors are straying in clear error.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : How well they hear and see and hear them on the Day they come unto Us! yet the evil-doers are to-day in error manifest.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : How plainly will they see and hear, the Day that they will appear before Us! but the unjust today are in error manifest!

Verse : 039

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And warn thou them of thy Day of Sighing when the affair shall have been decreed while yet they are in negligence and are not believing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And warn them (O Muhammad SAW) of the Day of grief and regrets, when the case has been decided, while (now) they are in a state of carelessness, and they believe not[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Warn them of The Day of Remorse when the whole thing will be settled, while they are heedless and do not believe.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And warn them of the Day of anguish when the case hath been decided. Now they are in a state of carelessness, and they believe not.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But warn them of the Day of Distress, when the matter will be determined: for (behold) they are negligent and they do not believe!

Verse : 040

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We shall inherit the earth and whatsoever is thereon: and Unto Us they shall be returned.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily! We will inherit the earth and whatsoever is thereon. And to Us they all shall be returned,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely We, only We, shall be the ultimate owner of the earth and all those on it, and to Us they will be returned.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We Only, We inherit the earth and all who are thereon, and unto Us they are returned.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is We Who will inherit the earth, and all beings thereon: to Us will they all be returned.

Verse : 041

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And mention thou in the Book Ibrahim; verily he was a man of truth, a prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân) Ibrâhim (Abraham). Verily! he was a man of truth, a Prophet.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mention in the Book (the story of) Ibrahim. Indeed, he was Siddiq (a man of truth), a prophet,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make mention (O Muhammad) in the Scripture of Abraham. Lo! he was a saint, a prophet.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Also mention in the Book (the story of) Abraham: he was a man of Truth, a prophet.

Verse : 042

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Recall what time he said unto his father: , O my father! wherefore worshippest thou that which heareth not and seeth not, nor availeth thee at all?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : When he said to his father: “O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When he said to his father, “My dear father, why do you worship something that does neither hear nor see, nor help you in any way?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When he said unto his father: O my father! Why worshippest thou that which heareth not nor seeth, nor can in aught avail thee?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Behold, he said to his father: “O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

Verse : 043

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O My father! verily there hath come to me of the knowledge which hath not come unto thee; so follow me, and I shall guide thee to a path even.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “O my father! Verily! there has come to me of knowledge that which came not unto you. So follow me. I will guide you to a Straight Path.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : My dear father, indeed there has come to me a knowledge that has not come to you; so, follow me, and I shall lead you to a straight path.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : O my father! Lo! there hath come unto me of knowledge that which came not unto thee. So follow me, and I will lead thee on a right path.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “O my father! To me hath come knowledge which hath not reached thee: so follow me: I will guide thee to a Way that is even and straight.

Verse : 044

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O My father! worship not the satan; hath been Unto the Compassionate a rebel.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “O my father! Worship not Shaitân (Satan). Verily! Shaitân (Satan) has been a rebel against the Most Gracious (Allâh)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : My dear father, do not worship the Satan. The Satan is surely rebellious to the All-Merciful, (Allah).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : O my father! Serve not the devil. Lo! the devil is a rebel unto the Beneficent.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “O my father! serve not Satan: for Satan is a rebel against (Allah) Most Gracious.

Verse : 045

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : O My father! verily I fear that there may touch thee a torment from the Compassionate so that thou become to the Satan a companin.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Gracious (Allâh) should overtake you, so that you become a companion of Shaitân (Satan) (in the Hell-fire).” [Tafsir Al-Qurtubî]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : My dear father, I fear lest a punishment from the All- Merciful (Allah) should afflict you, and you become a companion of Satan.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : O my father! Lo! I fear lest a punishment from the Beneficent overtake thee so that thou become a comrade of the devil.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “O my father! I fear lest a Penalty afflict thee from (Allah) Most Gracious, so that thou become to Satan a friend.”

Verse : 046

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He said: art thou averse to my gods, O Ibrahim? If thou desistest not, surely I shall stone thee; and depart from me for ever so long.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He (the father) said: “Do you reject my gods, O Ibrâhim (Abraham)? If you stop not (this), I will indeed stone you. So get away from me safely (before I punish you).”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “Are you averse to my gods O Ibrahim? Should you not stop, I will definitely stone you. And leave me for good.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: Rejectest thou my gods, O Abraham? If thou cease not, I shall surely stone thee. Depart from me a long while!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (The father) replied: “Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: now get away from me for a good long while!”

Verse : 047

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Ibrahim said: peace be on thee! anon shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee; verily He is unto me ever so soicitous.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Ibrâhim (Abraham) said: “Peace be on you! I will ask Forgiveness of my Lord for you. Verily! He is unto me, Ever Most Gracious.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He said, “Peace on you. I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. He has always been gracious to me.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He said: Peace be unto thee! I shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee. Lo! He was ever gracious unto me.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Abraham said: “Peace be on thee: I will pray to my Lord for thy forgiveness: for He is to me Most Gracious.

Verse : 048

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And I renounce you and that unto which ye call beside Allah; and I shall call unto my Lord; belike in calling unto my Lord I shall not be unblest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allâh. And I shall call upon my Lord; and I hope that I shall not be unblest in my invocation to my Lord.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And I go away from you and what you invoke besides Allah. And I shall invoke my Lord. Hopefully I shall not be a looser by invoking my Lord.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : I shall withdraw from you and that unto which ye pray beside Allah, and I shall pray unto my Lord. It may be that, in prayer unto my Lord, I shall not be unblest.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah: I will call on my Lord: Perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest.”

Verse : 049

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then when he had renounced them and that which they worshipped beside Allah, We best owed on him Ishaq and Yaqub and each one We made a prophet!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So when he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allâh, We gave him Ishâq (Isaac) and Ya’qûb (Jacob), and each one of them We made a Prophet.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, when he went away from them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We blessed him with Ishaq (Isaac) and Ya‘qub (Jacob) and We made each one of them a prophet,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So, when he had withdrawn from them and that which they were worshipping beside Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob. Each of them We made a prophet.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : When he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and each one of them We made a prophet.

Verse : 050

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We bestowed on them of Our mercy, and We made for them a renown lofty.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We gave them of Our Mercy (a good provision in plenty), and We granted them honour on the tongues (of all the nations, i.e everybody remembers them with a good praise).[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We bestowed on them (a great deal) of our mercy, and caused them to have a good name at a high level.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And we gave them of Our mercy, and assigned to them a high and true renown.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And We bestowed of Our Mercy on them, and We granted them lofty honour on the tongue of truth.

Verse : 051

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And mention thou in the Book Musa: verily he was single-hearted, and was an apostle, prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And mention in the Book (this Qur’ân) Mûsa (Moses). Verily! he was chosen and he was a Messenger (and) a Prophet
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mention in the Book (the story of) Musa. Indeed he was a chosen one and was a messenger, a prophet.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make mention in the Scripture of Moses. Lo! he was chosen, and he was a messenger (of Allah), a prophet.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Also mention in the Book (the story of) Moses: for he was specially chosen and he was an messenger (and) a prophet.

Verse : 052

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We cried unto him from the right side of the mount, and We drew him nigh for whispering.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We called him from the right side of the Mount, and made him draw near to Us for a talk with him [Mûsa (Moses)]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We called him from the right side of the mount Tur (Sinai), and We brought him close to communicate in secret.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We called him from the right slope of the Mount, and brought him nigh in communion.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And We called him from the right side of Mount (Sinai), and made him draw near to Us, for mystic (converse).

Verse : 053

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We bestowed on him, out of Our mercy, his brother Harun, a prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We granted him his brother Hârûn (Aaron), (also) a Prophet, out of Our Mercy.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And, out of Our mercy, We granted him his brother Harun as a prophet.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We bestowed upon him of Our mercy his brother Aaron, a prophet (likewise).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And, out of Our Mercy, We gave him his brother Aaron, (also) a prophet.

Verse : 054

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And mention thou in the Book lsmai; verily he was true in promise, and was apostle, prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân) Ismâ’il (Ishmael). Verily! he was true to what he promised, and he was a Messenger, (and) a Prophet.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mention in the Book (the story of) Isma‘il. He was indeed true to his promise, and was a messenger, a prophet.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make mention in the Scripture of Ishmael. Lo! he was a keeper of his promise, and he was a messenger (of Allah), a prophet.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Also mention in the Book (the story of) Ismail: he was (strictly) true to what he promised, and he was a messenger (and) a prophet.

Verse : 055

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And he was wont to command his household to the Prayer and the poor-rate, and he was with his Lord an approved one.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And he used to enjoin on his family and his people As-Salât (the prayers) and the Zakât, and his Lord was pleased with him.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He used to enjoin Salah and Zakah upon his family, and was favourite to his Lord.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He enjoined upon his people worship and almsgiving, and was acceptable in the sight of his Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He used to enjoin on his people Prayer and Charity and he was most acceptable in the sight of his Lord.

Verse : 056

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And mention thou in the book ldris, verily he was a man of truth, a prophet.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And mention in the Book (the Qur’ân) Idris (Enoch).Verily! he was a man of truth, (and) a Prophet.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mention in the Book (the story of) Idris. He was indeed a Siddiq (man of truth), a prophet.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make mention in the Scripture of Idris. Lo! he was a saint, a prophet;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Also mention in the Book the case of Idris: he was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a prophet:

Verse : 057

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We exalted him to a position lofty.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We raised him to a high station.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We raised him to a high place.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We raised him to high station.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And We raised him to a lofty station.

Verse : 058

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : These are they whom Allah hath favoured, from among the prophets, of the progeny of Adam and of them whom We bare with Nuh, and of the progeny of Ibrahim and Israil, and of those whom We have guided and chosen; whenever the revelations of the Compassionate were rehearsed unto them, they fell down prostrating themselves and weeping.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Those were they unto whom Allâh bestowed His Grace from among the Prophets, of the offspring of Adam, and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nûh (Noah), and of the offspring of Ibrâhim (Abraham) and Israel and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the Verses of the Most Gracious (Allâh) were recited unto them, they fell down prostrating and weeping.[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Those are the people whom Allah has blessed with bounties, the prophets from the progeny of ’Adam, and of those whom We caused to board (the Ark) along with Nuh, and from the progeny of Ibrahim and Isra’il (Jacob), and from those whom We guided and selected. When the verses of The Rahman (The All-Merciful) were recited before them, they used to fall down in Sajdah (prostration), while they were weeping.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : These are they unto whom Allah showed favour from among the prophets, of the seed of Adam and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the revelations of the Beneficent were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Those were some of the prophets on whom Allah did bestow His Grace― of the posterity of Adam, and of those whom We carried (in the Ark) with Noah, and of the posterity of Abraham and Israel― of those whom We guided and chose; whenever the Signs of (Allah) Most Gracious were rehearsed to them, they would fall down in prostrate adoration and in tears.

Verse : 059

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then there succeeded to them a posterity who neglected the prayers and followed lusts; so presently they shall meet with perdition.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salât (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salât (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts.[] So they will be thrown in Hell.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then came after them the successors who neglected Salah and followed (their selfish) desires. So they will soon face (the outcome of their) deviation,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Now there hath succeeded them a later generation whom have ruined worship and have followed lusts. But they will meet deception.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But after them there followed a posterity who missed prayers and followed after lusts: soon, then will they face Destruction―

Verse : 060

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Excepting those who may repent and believe and work righteously; these shall enter the Garden and shall not be wronged at all
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Except those who repent and believe (in the Oneness of Allâh and His Messenger Muhammad SAW), and work righteousness[]. Such will enter Paradise and they will not be wronged in aught.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Except those who repent and believe and do good deeds, and therefore they will enter the Paradise and will not be wronged at all.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Save him who shall repent and believe and do right. Such will enter the Garden, and they will not be wronged in aught –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Except those who repent and believe, and work Righteousness: for these will enter the Garden and will not be wronged in the least

Verse : 061

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Gardens Everlasting, which the Compassionate hath promised unto his bondmen, unseen; verily His premise is ever to be fulfilled.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (They will enter) ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which the Most Gracious (Allâh) has promised to His slaves in the unseen: Verily! His Promise must come to pass.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will enter) the Gardens of eternity, promised by the All-Merciful (Allah) to His servants, in the unseen world. They will surely reach (the places of) His promise.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Gardens of Eden, which the Beneficent hath promised to His slaves in the unseen. Lo! His promise is ever sure of fulfilment –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Gardens of Eternity, those which (Allah) Most Gracious has promised to His servants in the Unseen: for His promise must (necessarily) come to pass.

Verse : 062

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They shall not hear therein any vain word, but they shall hear only peace; and therein they shall have their provision morning and evening.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : They shall not hear therein (in Paradise) any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk), but only Salâm (salutations of peace). And they will have therein their sustenance, morning and afternoon. [See (V.40:55)]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will not hear anything absurd therein, but a word of peace, and there they will have their provision at morn and eve.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : They hear therein no idle talk, but only Peace; and therein they have food for morn and evening.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : They will not there hear any vain discourse, but only salutations of peace: and they will have therein their sustenance, morning and evening.

Verse : 063

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Such is the Garden which We shall cause those of Our bondmen to inherit who have been God-fearing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Such is the Paradise which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our slaves who have been Al-Muttaqûn (pious and righteous persons – See V.2:2).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That is the Paradise We will give as inheritance to those of Our servants who have been God-fearing.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Such is the Garden which We cause the devout among Our bondmen to inherit.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Such is the Garden which We give as an inheritance to those of Our Servants who guard against evil.

Verse : 064

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And we descend not except by the command of thy Lord: his is whatsoever is before us and whatsoever is behind us and whatsoever is in-between; and thy Lord is not a forgetter
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And we (angels) descend not except by the Command of your Lord (O Muhammad SAW). To Him belongs what is before us and what is behind us, and what is between those two, and your Lord is never forgetful,—
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Jibra’il (A.S) said to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W)) “We do not descend but with the command of your Lord. To Him belongs what is in front of us and what is behind us and what is in between; and your Lord is not the One who forgets.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We (angels) come not down save by commandment of thy Lord. Unto Him belongeth all that is before us and all that is behind us and all that is between those two, and thy Lord was never forgetful –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (The angels say:) “We descend not but by command of thy Lord: to Him belongeth what is before us and what is behind us and what is between: and thy Lord never doth forget”―

Verse : 065

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Lord of the heavens and the earth and that which is betwixt the twain; so Him worship thou, and endure patiently in His worship; knowest thou any as his compeer?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him? (of course none is similar or coequal or comparable to Him, and He has none as partner with Him). [There is nothing like unto Him and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer][].
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He is) the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them. So, worship Him and persevere in His worship. Do you know any one worthy of His name?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! Therefor, worship thou Him and be thou steadfast in His service. Knowest thou one that can be named along with Him?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and of all that is between them: so worship Him, and be constant and patient in His worship: knowest thou of any who is worthy of the same Name as He?”

Verse : 066

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And man saith: when I am daed, Shall I be presently brought forth alive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And man (the disbeliever) says: “When I am dead, shall I then be raised up alive?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Man says, “Is it that, once I die, I shall be brought forth alive?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And man saith: When I am dead, shall I forsooth be brought forth alive?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Man says: “What! when I am dead, shall I then be raised up alive?”

Verse : 067

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Remembereth not man that We created him afore when he was not aught?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Does not man remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Does not the man remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Doth not man remember that We created him before, when he was naught?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But does not man call to mind that We created him before out of nothing?

Verse : 068

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By thy Lord, then, We shall surely gather them and the satans; thereafter We shall surely bring them round Hell, kneeling.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So by your Lord, surely, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Shayâtin (devils) (with them), then We shall bring them round Hell on their knees.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, by your Lord, We will definitely gather them together, and the devils as well; then We will definitely make them present around the Jahannam , fallen on their knees.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And, by thy Lord, verily We shall assemble them and the devils, then We shall bring them, crouching, around hell.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So by thy Lord, without doubt, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Evil Ones (with them); then shall We bring them forth on their knees round about Hell;

Verse : 069

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Thereafter, We shall surely draw aside, from each sect, whichever of them against the Compassionate were most in excess.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then indeed We shall drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against the Most Gracious (Allâh).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then, out of every group, We will certainly draw out those who were more rebellious against the All-Merciful (Allah).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against (Allah) Most Gracious.

Verse : 070

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then surely it is We who are the Best Knower of these worthiest of being therein roasted.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then, verily, We know best those who are most worthy of being burnt therein.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then of course, We are most aware of those who are more deserving to enter it (the Jahannam ).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And surely We are best aware of those most worthy to be burned therein.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.

Verse : 071

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And not one of you but shall pass over it: it is for thy Lord an ordinance decreed.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : There is not one of you but will pass over it (Hell); this is with your Lord; a Decree which must be accomplished[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : There is none among you who does not have to arrive at it. This is undertaken by your Lord as an absolute decree, bound to be enforced.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished.

Verse : 072

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then We shall deliver those who have feared, and shall have the wrong-doers therein kneeling.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then We shall save those who use to fear Allâh and were dutiful to Him. And We shall leave the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers) therein (humbled) to their knees (in Hell).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then We will save those who feared Allah, and will leave the wrongdoers in it, fallen on their knees.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evil-doers crouching there.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrongdoers therein, (humbled) to their knees.

Verse : 073

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And when Our manifest revelations are rehearsed unto them, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: which of the two portions is better in station and goodlier in company?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve (the rich and strong among the pagans of Quraish who live a life of luxury) say to those who believe (the weak, poor companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW who have a hard life): “Which of the two groups (i.e. believers or disbelievers) is best in (point of) position and as regards station (place of council for consultation).”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When Our verses are recited to them in all their clarity, the disbelievers say to the believers, “Which of the two groups is superior in its place and better in its assembly?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Which of the two parties (yours or ours) is better in position, and more imposing as an army?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say to those who believe “Which of the two sides is best in point of position? Which makes the best show in council?”

Verse : 074

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And how many a generation have We destroyed before these, who were goodlier in goods and outward appearance?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And how many a generation (past nations) have We destroyed before them, who were better in wealth, goods and outward appearance?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : How many a generation We have destroyed before them who were better in assets and outlook!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : How many a generation have We destroyed before them, who were more imposing in respect of gear and outward seeming!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed, who were even better in equipment and in glitter to the eye?

Verse : 075

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: whosoever is in error–surely unto him the Compassionate lengtheneth a length, until When they behold that wherewith they were threatened, either the torment or the Hour, then they shall come to know whosoever is worse in position and weaker as an army.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW) whoever is in error, the Most Gracious (Allâh) will extend (the rope) to him, until, when they see that which they were promised, either the torment or the Hour, they will come to know who is worst in position, and who is weaker in forces. [This is the answer to the question in Verse No.19:73]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Say, “Whoever stays straying, let his term be extended by the All-Merciful (Allah) still longer, until when they will see what they are being warned of: either the punishment or the Hour (of Doom), then they will know who was worse in his place and weaker in his forces.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Say: “If any men go astray, (Allah) Most Gracious extends (the rope) to them. Until, when they see the warning of Allah (being fulfilled)― either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour― they will at length realise who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces!

Verse : 076

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And Allah increaseth in guidance those who let themselves be guided, and the righteous works that last are excellent with thy Lord in respect of reward and excellent in respect of return.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And Allâh increases in guidance those who walk aright. And the righteous good deeds that last, are better with your Lord, for reward and better for resort.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Allah makes those on the right path excel in guidance. And the everlasting virtues are better with your Lord in respect of reward and better in their return.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Allah increaseth in right guidance those who walk aright, and the good deeds which endure are better in thy Lord’s sight for reward, and better for resort.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “And Allah doth advance in guidance those who seek guidance; and the things that endure. Good Deeds, are best in the sight of thy Lord, as rewards, and best in respect of (their) eventual returns.”

Verse : 077

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Hast thou observed him who disbelieveth in Our signs and saith: surely I shall be vouchsafed riches and children.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Have you seen him who disbelieved in Our Ayât (this Qur’ân and Muhammad SAW) and said: “I shall certainly be given wealth and children [if I will be alive (again)],”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Have you, then, seen him who rejected Our verses and said, “I shall certainly be given wealth and children”?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our revelations and saith: Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Hast thou then seen the (sort of) man who rejects Our Signs, yet says: “I shall certainly be given wealth and children”?

Verse : 078

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Hath he looked unto the Unseen, or hath he taken of the Compassionate a covenant?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Has he known the unseen or has he taken a covenant from the Most Gracious (Allâh)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Has he peeped into the Unseen or taken a covenant with the All-Merciful (Allah)?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Hath he perused the Unseen, or hath he made a pact with the Beneficent?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Has he penetrated to the Unseen, or has he taken a promise with (Allah) Most Gracious?

Verse : 079

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! We shall write down that which he saith; and We shall lengthen for him of the torment a length.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay! We shall record what he says, and We shall increase his torment (in the Hell);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never! We will write what he says and extend for him the punishment extensively.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but We shall record that which he saith and prolong for him a span of torment.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nay! We shall record what he says, and We Shall add and add to his punishment.

Verse : 080

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We shall inherit from him that whereof he spake, and he shall come to us alone.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We shall inherit from him (at his death) all that he talks of (i.e. wealth and children which We have bestowed upon him in this world), and he shall come to Us alone
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We will inherit from him what he is talking about, and he will come to Us all alone.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We shall inherit from him that whereof he spake, and he will come unto Us, alone (without his wealth and children).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : To Us shall return all that he talks of, and he shall appear before Us bare and alone.

Verse : 081

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they have taken gods beside Allah that they might be unto them a glory.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And they have taken (for worship) âlihah (gods) besides Allâh, that they might give them honour, power and glory (and also protect them from Allâh’s Punishment).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They have taken gods other than Allah, so that they may be a source of might for them.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And they have chosen (other) gods beside Allah that they may be a power for them.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them power and glory!

Verse : 082

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! anon they shall deny their worship, and become unto them an adversary.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, but they (the so-called gods) will deny their worship of them, and become opponents to them (on the Day of Resurrection).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never! They (their fabricated deities) will soon reject their having worshipped them, and they will be just the opposite for them.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but they will deny their worship of them, and become opponents unto them.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Instead, they shall reject their worship, and become adversaries against them.

Verse : 083

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Beholdest thou not that We have sent the satans upon the infidels inciting them by an incitement?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : See you not that We have sent the Shayâtin (devils) against the disbelievers to push them to do evil.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Have you not seen that We have sent the devils onto the disbelievers inciting them with all their incitements.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Seest thou not that We have set the devils on the disbelievers to confound them with confusion?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Seest thou not that We have set the Evil Ones on against the Unbelievers, to incite them with fury?

Verse : 084

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So hasten thou not against them; We are only counting against them a counting.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So make no haste against them; We only count out to them a (limited) number (of the days of the life of this world and delay their term so that they may increase in evil and sins).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So make no hurry about them; We are but counting for them a count down.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So make no haste against them (O Muhammad). We do but count out unto them a number (of days).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So make no haste against them, for We but count out to them a (limited) number (of days).

Verse : 085

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : On the Day whereon We shall gather the God-feaing unto the Com- passionate as an embassy.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : The Day We shall gather the Muttaqûn (pious and righteous Persons – see V.2:2) unto the Most Gracious (Allâh), like a delegatation (presented before a king for honour).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : The day We will assemble the God-fearing before the All-Merciful (Allah) as guests,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On the day when We shall gather the righteous unto the Beneficent, a goodly company.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The day We shall gather the righteous to (Allah) Most Gracious, like a band presented before a king for honours.

Verse : 086

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And shall drive the culprits to Hell as a herd.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We shall drive the Mujrimûn (polytheists, sinners, criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) to Hell, in a thirsty state (like a thirsty herd driven down to water),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And will drive the sinners towards the Jahannam as herds of cattle (are driven) towards water,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And drive the guilty unto Hell, a weary herd,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And We shall drive the sinners to Hell, like thirsty cattle driven down to water―

Verse : 087

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They shall not own intercession, excepting those who have taken of the Compassionate a covenant.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from the Most Gracious (Allâh).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : None will have power to intercede, except the one who has entered into a covenant with the All-Merciful (Allah).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : They will have no power of intercession, save him who hath made a covenant with his Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from (Allah) Most Gracious.

Verse : 088

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they say: the Compassionate hath taken a son.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And they say: “The Most Gracious (Allâh) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: ‘Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allâh, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son [‘Īsā (Christ) A.S.], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)].”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They say, “The All-Merciful (Allah) has got a son.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And they say: The Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a son.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : They say: “(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!”

Verse : 089

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Assuredly ye have brought a thing monstrous.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed you have come up with such an abominable statement
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Assuredly ye utter a disastrous thing
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

Verse : 090

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Well-nigh the heavens are rent thereat and the earth cleft in sunder and the mountains fall down in pieces.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That the heavens are well-nigh to explode at it, and the earth to burst apart, and the mountains to fall down crumbling,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Whereby almost the heavens are torn, and the earth is split asunder and the mountains fall in ruins,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin.

Verse : 091

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : That they should ascribe unto the Compassionate a son.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Gracious (Allâh).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : For they have ascribed a son to the All-Merciful (Allah),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : That ye ascribe unto the Beneficent a son,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious.

Verse : 092

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And it behoveth not the Compassionate that he should take a son.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Gracious (Allâh) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : While it does not behove the All-Merciful to have a son.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When it is not meet for (the Majesty of) the Beneficent that He should choose a son.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son.

Verse : 093

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : None there is in the heavens and the earth but must come unto the Compassionate as a bondman.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Gracious (Allâh) as a slave.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : There is none in the heavens and the earth, but bound to come to the All-Merciful as a slave.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There is none in the heavens and the earth but cometh unto the Beneficent as a slave.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to (Allah) Most Gracious as a servant.

Verse : 094

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Assuredly He hath comprehanded them and counted them a full Counting.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, He knows each one of them, and has counted them a full counting.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He has fully encompassed them and precisely calculated their numbers,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Verily He knoweth them and numbereth them with (right) numbering.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He does take an account of them (all), and hath numbered them (all) exactly.

Verse : 095

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And each of them is to come to Him on the Day of Judgment alone.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And everyone of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection (without any helper, or protector or defender).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And each one of them is bound to come to Him on the Day of Judgment, all alone.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And each one of them will come unto Him on the Day of Resurrection, alone.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And every one of them will come to him singly on the Day of Judgment.

Verse : 096

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those who believe and do righteOUs works–anon the Compassionate shall appoint for them affection.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, those who believe [in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW)] and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Gracious (Allâh) will bestow love for them[] (in the hearts of the believers).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely, those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them the All-Merciful (Allah) will create love.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! those who believe and do good works, the Beneficent will appoint for them love.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : On those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, will (Allah) Most Gracious bestow Love.

Verse : 097

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So We have made it easy in thine tongue in order that thou mayest thereby give glad tidings unto the Godfearing and warn thereby a people contentious.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So We have made this (the Qur’ân) easy in your own tongue (O Muhammad SAW), only that you may give glad tidings to the Muttaqûn (pious and righteous persons – See V.2:2), and warn with it the Luda[] (most quarrelsome) people.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So We have made it (the Qur’an) easy through your tongue, so that you give with it the good news to the God-fearing, and warn with it an obstinate people.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We make (this Scripture) easy in thy tongue, (O Muhammad) only that thou mayst bear good tidings therewith unto those who ward off (evil), and warn therewith the froward folk.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So have We made the (Qur’an) easy in thine own tongue, that with it thou mayest give Glad Tidings to the righteous and warnings to people given to contention.

Verse : 098

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And how many a generation have We destroyed before them! Perceivest thou of them anyone or hear of them a whisper?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Can you (O Muhammad SAW) find a single one of them or hear even a whisper of them?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And how many a generation We have destroyed before them! Do you sense (the presence of) any one of them, or hear from them even a whisper?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Canst thou (Muhammad) see a single man of them, or hear from them the slightest sound?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But how many (countless) generation before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them?
