Verse : 001

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : When there happeneth Event.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When the Imminent Event (of Doom) will occur,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When the event befalleth –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : When the Event inevitable cometh to pass.

Verse : 002

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : There is about its happening no lie.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And there can be no denyial of its befalling.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : There will be no one to deny its occurrence.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There is no denying that it will befall –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.

Verse : 003

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Abasing exalting.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Bringing low (some — those who will enter Hell) Exalting (others- those who will enter Paradise). (Tafsir Ibn-Kathir)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It will be abasing (some), exalting (others)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Abasing (some), exalting (others);
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (Many) will it bring low, (many) will it exalt;

Verse : 004

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When the earth will be jolted with a terrible jolt,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When the earth is shaken with a shock
Eng-Yusuf Ali : When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,

Verse : 005

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the mountains will be powdered to dust.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the mountains will be crumbled a thorough crumbling,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the hills are ground to powder
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,

Verse : 006

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So that they become dust seattered.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So that they will become floating dust particles.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Until they will become dust, scattered in the air,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So that they become a scattered dust,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Becoming dust scattered abroad,

Verse : 007

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And ye are classes three.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And you (all) will be in three groups.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And you will be (divided into) three categories.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And ye will be three kinds:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And ye shall be sorted out into three classes.

Verse : 008

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands) — how (fortunate) will be those on the Right Hand! (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : As for the People of the Right, how (lucky) are the People of the Right!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand― what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

Verse : 009

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands) — how (unfortunate) will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the People of the Left ? How (wretched) are the People of the Left!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the Companions of the Left hand― what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

Verse : 010

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the preceders are the pre-ceders.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And those foremost [(in Islâmic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islâm,] will be foremost (in Paradise).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the Foremost are the foremost.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).

Verse : 011

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Those! they shall be the brought nigh,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : These will be those nearest (to Allâh).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Those are the ones blessed with nearness (to Allah)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Those are they who will be brought nigh
Eng-Yusuf Ali : These will be those Nearest to Allah:

Verse : 012

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : In Gardens of Delight.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In the Gardens of Delight (Paradise).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In gardens of bliss,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : In gardens of delight;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : In Gardens of Bliss:

Verse : 013

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : A multitude from the ancients.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islâm).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Many from the first generations,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A multitude of those of old
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A number of people from those of old

Verse : 014

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And a few from the later generations.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later generations.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And a few from the later ones.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And a few of those of later time.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And a few from those of later times.

Verse : 015

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : On couches in wrought with gold.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will be sitting) on thrones woven with gold,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On lined couches,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones).

Verse : 016

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Reclining thereon facing each other.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Reclining thereon, face to face.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Reclining on them, facing each other.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Reclining therein face to face.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Reclining on them facing each other.

Verse : 017

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : There shall go round Unto them youths ever-young.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Immortal boys will go around them (serving).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Immortal boys will rotate around them
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There wait on them immortal youths
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness).

Verse : 018

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : With cups, and jugs, and a glass of the flowing wine,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : With bowls and jugs and a goblet of pure wine,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring
Eng-Yusuf Ali : With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:

Verse : 019

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : From which they will neither suffer headache, nor will they be intoxicated,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:

Verse : 020

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And with fruit from that which they choose.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And with fruit, that they may choose.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And with fruits that they choose,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And fruit that they prefer
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And with fruits, any that they may select;

Verse : 021

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And with flesh of fowls from that Which they desire.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And with the flesh of fowls that they desire.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the flesh of birds that they desire.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And flesh of fowls that they desire.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.

Verse : 022

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And there will be fair ones large eyed.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And (there will be) Hur (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And (for them there will be) houris, having lovely big eyes,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes–

Verse : 023

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : The likes Unto pearls hidden.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Like unto preserved pearls.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : All (neat and clean) like a hidden pearl,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Like unto hidden pearls,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Like unto Pearls well-guarded.

Verse : 024

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : A recompense for that which they have been working.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A reward for what they used to do.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : As a reward for what they used to do.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Reward for what they used to do.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A Reward for the Deeds of their past (Life).

Verse : 025

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will hear neither an absurd talk in it, nor something leading to sin,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination
Eng-Yusuf Ali : No frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill―

Verse : 026

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Nought but the saying: peace! peace!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But only the saying of: Salâm!, Salâm! (greetings with peace)[] !
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But (they will hear) the words of Salam , Salam (as greetings).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Only the saying “Peace! Peace.”

Verse : 027

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Right Hand- how (fortunate) will be those on the Right Hand?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the People of the right? How (lucky) are the People of the Right!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The Companions of the Right Hand, what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

Verse : 028

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Midst lote-trees thornless.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (They will be) among thornless lote-trees,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will be) amid lote-trees with no thorns,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Among thornless lote-trees
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (They will be) among lote trees without thorns,

Verse : 029

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And plantains laden with fruit.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the trees of talh , (banana, or a fragrant tree) having layers one upon the other,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And clustered plantains,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another―

Verse : 030

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And a shade ever-spread.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In shade long-extended,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And a shade, spread all over,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And spreading shade,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : In shade long-extended,

Verse : 031

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And water everflowing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And by water flowing constantly,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And water, poured forth,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And water gushing,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By water flowing constantly

Verse : 032

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And fruit abundant.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And fruit in plenty,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And a lot of fruits,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And fruit in plenty
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And fruit in abundance

Verse : 033

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Neither ending nor forbidden.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Whose supply is not cut off (by change of season) nor are they out of reach.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Neither interrupted (in any season), nor prohibited,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,

Verse : 034

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And carpets raised.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And on couches or thrones, raised high.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And mattresses of high quality.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And raised couches;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And on Thrones (of Dignity) raised high.

Verse : 035

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely We have made up those females in a special creation,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We have created them a (new) creation
Eng-Yusuf Ali : We have created (their Companions) of special creation.

Verse : 036

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And have made them virgins.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And made them virgins.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And have made them virgins,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And made them virgins,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And made them virgin-pure (and undefiled)―

Verse : 037

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Loving, of equal age.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Loving (their husbands only), (and) of equal age.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Amorous to their husbands, matching them in age,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lovers, friends,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Beloved (by nature), equal in age―

Verse : 038

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : For the fellows on the right hand.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : For those on the Right Hand.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : For the People of the Right,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : For those on the right hand;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For the companions of the Right Hand.

Verse : 039

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : A multitude from the ancients.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islâm).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Comprising) many from the first generations,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A multitude of those of old
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A (goodly) number from those of old―

Verse : 040

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And a multitude from the later generations.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later generations.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And many from the later ones.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And a multitude of those of later time.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And a (goodly) number from those of later times.

Verse : 041

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable Shall the fellows on the left hand be!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Left Hand how (unfortunate) will be those on the Left Hand?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the People of the Left? How (wretched) are the People of the Left!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The Companions of the Left Hand-what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

Verse : 042

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Amidst scorching wind and scalding water.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In fierce hot wind and boiling water.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will be) in scorching wind and boiling water,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : In scorching wind and scalding water
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (They will be) in the midst of a fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water

Verse : 043

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the shade of black smoke.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And shadow of black smoke.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And in a shade of black smoke,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And shadow of black smoke,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And in the shades of Black Smoke:

Verse : 044

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Neither cool nor pleasant.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) pleasant,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Neither cool nor graceful.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Neither cool nor refreshing.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:

Verse : 045

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily they have been heretofore affluent.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They were earlier in luxuries,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury).

Verse : 046

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they have been persisting in the heinous offence.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allâh, committing murder and other crimes).[]Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And used to persist in major sins,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And used to persist in the awful sin.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!

Verse : 047

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And they used to say: “When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And used to say, “Is it that when we die and become dustis it that we will be raised again,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And they used to say “what! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?―

Verse : 048

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : We and our fathers of old?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And also our forefathers?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And our ancient fathers as well?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And also our forefathers?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “(We) and our fathers of old?”

Verse : 049

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): “(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Say, “All the earlier and the later ones
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Say: “Yea, those of old and those of later times,

Verse : 050

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Will be gathered together for a fixed time of a specified Day.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day Well-known.

Verse : 051

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then O you, the erring, the denying people,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Then will ye truly, O ye that go wrong and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!―

Verse : 052

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqûm.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : You will have to eat from the tree of zaqqum,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.

Verse : 053

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And shall fill therewith your bellies.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “Then you will fill your bellies therewith,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And to fill with it the bellies,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And will fill your bellies therewith;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Then will ye fill your insides therewith,

Verse : 054

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And drink boiling water on top of it.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then on top of it you will have to drink boiling water,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And thereon ye will drink of boiling water,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “And drink Boiling Water on top of it:

Verse : 055

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “And you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And to drink like camels suffering from the disease of over-thirst.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Drinking even as the camel drinketh.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!

Verse : 056

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : This will be their welcome entertainment on the Day of Requital.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!

Verse : 057

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : We created you, then why do you believe not?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have created you; then why do you not believe in it?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We created you. Will ye then admit the truth?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?

Verse : 058

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! – that which ye emit.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me (about) the (human) semen that you emit.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, tell Me about the semen you drop (in the wombs):
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Have ye seen that which ye emit?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Do ye then see?― The (human seed) that ye throw out,―

Verse : 059

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Create him ye, or are We the Creator?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Is it you who create it, or are We the Creator?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Do ye create it or are We the Creator?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creator?

Verse : 060

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who have decreed death Unto you all. And We are not to be outrun.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : We have decreed death to you all, and We are not outstripped,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have appointed (the times of) death among you, and We cannot be frustrated
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated

Verse : 061

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : That We may substitute others like Unto you and produce you into that which ye know not.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : From replacing you with others like you, and creating you (afresh) in that (form) which you do not know.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : From changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (Forms) that ye know not.

Verse : 062

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly ye have fully known the first Production Wherefore heed ye not?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember (or take heed)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And you certainly know the first creation; then why do you not take lesson?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?

Verse : 063

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! – that which ye sow.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me! about seed that you sow in the ground.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Well, tell Me about that (seed) which you sow:
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Have ye seen that which ye cultivate?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?

Verse : 064

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Is it you who grow it, or are We the One who grows?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Is it ye that cause it to grow or are We the Cause?

Verse : 065

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). (Tafsir Ibn-Kathir)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : If We so will, We can certainly make it crumbled, and you will remain wondering,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment

Verse : 066

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily we are undone.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (Saying): “We are indeed Mughramûn (i.e. ruined or have lost the money without any profit, or are punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation)! (Tafsir Al-Qurtubî)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And saying,) “We are laden with debt,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! we are laden with debt!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (Saying) “We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):

Verse : 067

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! we are deprived!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “Nay, but we are deprived!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Rather we are totally deprived.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but we are deprived!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour).”

Verse : 068

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! – the water which ye drink:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me about the water that you drink.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Again, tell Me about the water you drink:
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Have ye observed the water which ye drink?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : See ye the water which ye drink?

Verse : 069

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Is it you who have brought it down from the clouds, or are We the One who sends (it) down?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Do ye bring it Down (in rain) from the Cloud or do We?

Verse : 070

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allâh)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : If We so will, We can make it bitter in taste. So why do you not offer gratitude?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?

Verse : 071

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! – the fire which ye strike out:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me about the fire which you kindle.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Now tell Me about the fire you kindle:
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : See ye the Fire which ye kindle?

Verse : 072

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Is it you who have originated its tree, or are We the Originator?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

Verse : 073

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision Unto the campers.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : We have made it a Reminder (of the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have made it a reminder (of Our infinite power, and of the fire of Hell) and a benefit for travelers in deserts.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : We have made it a reminder (of our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.

Verse : 074

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, proclaim purity of the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then celebrate with praises the name of the Lord, the Supreme:

Verse : 075

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : I swear by the setting of the stars –
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So I swear by the setting of the stars.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, I swear by the setting places of the stars,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, I swear by the places of the stars –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars―

Verse : 076

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And verily that is a mighty oath, if ye but knew!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And indeed it is a great oath, if you are to appreciate
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew―

Verse : 077

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : That it is a Recitation honourable.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That (this) is indeed an honourable recitation (the Noble Qur’ân).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It is surely the Noble Qur’an,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : That (this) is indeed a noble Qur’an
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That this is indeed a Qur’an most honourable,

Verse : 078

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : In a Book Hidden.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In a Book well-guarded (with Allâh in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Recorded already) in a protected book (i.e. the Preserved Tablet)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : In a Book kept hidden
Eng-Yusuf Ali : In a Book well-guarded,

Verse : 079

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Which none can touch except the purified.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Which (that Book with Allâh) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That is not touched except by the purified ones (the angels).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Which none toucheth save the purified,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Which none shall touch but those who are clean:

Verse : 080

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A Revelation (this Qur’ân) from the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : A revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

Verse : 081

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Is it this discourse that ye hold lightly?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is it such a talk (this Qur’an) that you (disbelievers) deny?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Is it this discourse that you take lightly,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Is it this Statement that ye scorn,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?

Verse : 082

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And make it your provision that ye should belie it?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And instead (of thanking Allâh) for the provision He gives you, you deny (Him by disbelief)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And take your denial as your livelihood?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And make denial thereof your livelihood?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?

Verse : 083

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore then – when the soul cometh up to the wind-pipe –
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So why (do you) not (intervene) when the soul (of a dying person) reaches the throat,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Why, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying)
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat

Verse : 084

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And ye are then looking on.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And you at the moment are looking on,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And you are watching?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And ye are at that moment looking
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And ye the while (sit) looking on―

Verse : 085

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We are nigher Unto him than ye are, but ye behold not-
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, (Tafsir At-Tabarî)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We are closer to him than you, but you do not perceive.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : – And We are nearer unto him than ye are, but ye see not –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not

Verse : 086

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore then, if ye are not to be requited
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment) —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, if you are not going to be recompensed (in the Hereafter for your deeds), then why do you not
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Why then, if ye are not in bondage (unto Us),
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then why do you not if you are exempt from (future) account―

Verse : 087

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Cause ye it not to return, if ye say sooth?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Bring the soul back, if you are truthful?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Do ye not force it back, if ye are truthful?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Call back the soul, if ye are true (in your claim of Independence)?

Verse : 088

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then if he be of the broughtnigh.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarrabûn (those brought near to Allâh),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, in case he (the dying person) is from among those blessed with nearness,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thus if he is of those brought nigh,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Thus then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,

Verse : 089

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : For him shall be comfort, and fragrance and a Garden of Delight.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of Delights (Paradise).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then (for him) there is comfort and fragrance and garden of bliss.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then breath of life, and plenty, and a Garden of delight.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.

Verse : 090

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And if he be of the fellows on the right hand,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And in case he is from among the People of the Right,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And if he is of those on the right hand,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand

Verse : 091

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then: peace Unto thee, for thou art of those on the right hand.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allâh) for those on the Right Hand.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then, (it will be said to him,) “Peace is for you, as you are one of the People of the Right.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then (the greeting) “Peace be unto thee” from those on the right hand.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (For him is the salutation) “Peace be unto thee”, from the Companions of the Right Hand.

Verse : 092

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And if he be of the beliers, the erring,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islâmic Monotheism),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But if he is one of the deniers, the astray,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But if he is of the rejecters, the erring,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And if he be of those who treat (truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong

Verse : 093

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then an entertainment of boiling water.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then for him is entertainment with boiling water.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then (for him) there is entertainment from boiling water,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then the welcome will be boiling water
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water,

Verse : 094

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And roasting in a Blaze.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And burning in Hell-fire.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And burning in the Hell.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And roasting at hell-fire.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And burning in Hell-Fire.

Verse : 095

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this! this is the very truth.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed this is certainty in its true sense.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! this is certain truth.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainty.

Verse : 096

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, proclaim purity of the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Therefor (O Muhammad) praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme.
