Verse : 001
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : I swear by the Day of Resurrection.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : I swear by the Day of Resurrection;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : I swear by the Day of Resurrection,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : I do call to witness the Resurrection Day;
Verse : 002
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And I swear by the self-reproaching conscience, (that Resurrection is a reality.)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And I do call to witness the self-reproaching spirit; (Eschew Evil).
Verse : 003
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Deemest man that We shall not assemble his bones?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Does man think that We will never reassemble his bones?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones?
Verse : 004
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Yea! WE are Able to put together evenly his finger-tips.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Why (can We) not (do so), while We are able to reset (even) his fingertips perfectly?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Yea, verily Yea. We are Able to restore his very fingers!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.
Verse : 005
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! man desireth that he may sin before him.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay! (Man denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So he) desires to continue committing sins.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But man wishes to go on violating Allah’s injunctions (even in future) ahead of him.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But man would fain deny what is before him.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him.
Verse : 006
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He asketh: when will the Day of Resurrection be?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He asks: “When will be this Day of Resurrection?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He asks, “When will be this Day of Resurrection?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He questions: “When is the Day of Resurrection?”
Verse : 007
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : When, then, the sight shall be confounded.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So, when the sight shall be dazed,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, when the eyes will be dazzled,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But when sight is confounded
Eng-Yusuf Ali : At length, when the Sight is dazed,
Verse : 008
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the moon shall be ecliped.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the moon will be eclipsed,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the moon will lose its light,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the moon is eclipsed
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the moon is buried in darkness.
Verse : 009
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the sun and the moon shall be joined.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light).Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the sun and the moon will be joined together,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And sun and moon are united,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the sun and moon are joined together―
Verse : 010
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : On that Day shall man say: whither is the fleeing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : On that Day man will say: “Where (is the refuge) to flee?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : On that day man will say, “Where to escape?”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On that day man will cry: Whither to flee!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That Day will Man say “Where is the refuge?”
Verse : 011
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! NO refuge!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : No! There is no refuge!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never! There will be no refuge at all.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Alas! No refuge!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By no means! no place of safety!
Verse : 012
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Unto thy Lord that Day is the recourse.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : On that day, towards your Lord will be the destination (of everyone.)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Before thy Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of rest.
Verse : 013
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Man will be informed of what he sent ahead and what he left behind.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That Day will man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he put back.
Verse : 014
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! man against himself shall be an enlightenment.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds].
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Rather, man will be a witness against himself,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nay, man will be evidence against himself.
Verse : 015
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Although he may put forth his pleas.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Even though he may offer his excuses.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Although he tender his excuses.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Even though he were to put up his excuses.
Verse : 016
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Move not thy tongue therewith that thou mayest hasten therewith.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur’ân, O Muhammad SAW) to make haste therewith.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : O Prophet,) do not move your tongue (during revelation) for (reciting) it (the Qur’an) to receive it in hurry.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur’an) to make haste therewith.
Verse : 017
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily upon us is the collecting thereof and the reciting thereof.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad SAW) the ability to recite it (the Qur’ân),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It is surely undertaken by Us to store it (in your heart), and to let it be recited (by you after revelation is completed).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:
Verse : 018
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore when We reciteit, follow thou the reciting thereof.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad SAW through Jibril (Gabriel)], then follow you its (the Qur’ân’s) recital.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Therefore, when it is recited by Us (through the angel), follow its recitation (by concentration of your heart).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And when We read it, follow thou the reading;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated):
Verse : 019
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And thereafter verily upon us is is the expounding thereof.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then it is for Us (Allâh) to make it clear (to you).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then, it is undertaken by Us to explain it.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear):
Verse : 020
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! Verily ye love the Herein.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but you (men) love the present life of this world,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never, (your denial of Resurrection is never based on any sound reason!) Instead, you love that which is immediate,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,
Verse : 021
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And leave the Hereafter.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And neglect the Hereafter.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And neglect the Hereafter.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And neglect the Hereafter.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And leave alone the Hereafter.
Verse : 022
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Countenances on that Day shall be resplendent,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Some faces that Day shall be Nâdirah (shining and radiant).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Many faces, that day, will be glowing,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : That day will faces be resplendent,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty)―
Verse : 023
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Looking toward their Lord.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Looking at their Lord (Allâh);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Looking towards their Lord,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Looking toward their Lord;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Looking towards their Lord;
Verse : 024
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And countenances on that Day shall be scowling.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And some faces, that Day, will be Bâsirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And many faces, that day, will be gloomy,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And that day will other faces be despondent,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal,
Verse : 025
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Imagining that there will befall them a waiste-breaking calomity.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Realizing that a back-breaking calamity is going to be afflicted on them.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : In the thought that some back-breaking calamity was about to be inflicted on them;
Verse : 026
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! When it cometh up to he collar-bone.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never, (you will never remain in this world forever!) When the soul (of a patient) reaches the clavicles,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit)
Verse : 027
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And it is cried. who can charm?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And it will be said: “Who can cure him (and save him from death)?”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And it is said, “Who is an enchanter (that can save him?)”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And it is said: Where is the wizard (who can save him now)?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And there will be a cry: “Who is a magician (to restore him)?”
Verse : 028
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And he bethinketh that it is the time of parting.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And he (the dying person) will conclude that it was (the time) of parting (death);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And he realizes that it is (the time of) departure (from the world,)
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And he knoweth that it is the parting;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;
Verse : 029
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And one shank is entangled with the other shank.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded)Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And one shank is intertwined with the other shank,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And agony is heaped on agony;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And one leg will be joined with another:
Verse : 030
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Unto thy Lord that Day is the drive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : The drive will be, on that Day, to your Lord (Allâh)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then on that day, it is to your Lord that one has to be driven.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord!
Verse : 031
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He neither believed nor prayed,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur’ân, and in the Message of Muhammad SAW) nor prayed!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So (the denier of the Hereafter) neither believed, nor prayed,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : For he neither trusted, nor prayed.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : So he gave nothing in charity nor did he pray!
Verse : 032
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : But he belied and turned away.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur’ân and the Message of Muhammad SAW) and turned away!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But rejected the truth and turned away (from it),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But he denied and flouted.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!
Verse : 033
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then he departed Unto his house hold conceitedly.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then he walked in conceit (full pride) to his family admiring himself!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then he went to his home, puffed up with pride.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then went he to his folk with glee.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then did he stalk to his family in full conceit!
Verse : 034
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Woe Unto thee; woe!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It will be said to such a man,) Woe to you, then woe to you!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nearer unto thee and nearer,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Woe to thee, (O man!) yea, woe!
Verse : 035
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Again, woe Unto thee, woe!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Again, woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Again, woe to you, then woe to you!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Again woe to thee, (O man!) yea, woe!
Verse : 036
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Deemest man that he is to be left uncontrolled?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Does man think that he will be left neglected [without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allâh) on him]?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Does man presume that he will be left unchecked?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thinketh man that he is to be left aimless?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Does Man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?
Verse : 037
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Was he not a sperm of emission emitted?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female sexual discharge) of semen emitted (poured forth)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Was he not an ejaculated drop of semen?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Was he not a drop of fluid which gushed forth?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)?
Verse : 038
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then he became a clot; then He created him and formed him.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then he became an ‘Alaqa (a clot); then (Allâh) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then he became a clot of blood, then He created (him) and made (him) perfect,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then did he become a clinging clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion.
Verse : 039
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And made of him the two sexes, male and female.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And made him in two sexes, male and female.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And made from him two kinds, male and female.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And made of him a pair, the male and female.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And of him He made two sexes, male and female.
Verse : 040
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Is not That One then Able to quicken the dead?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Is not He (Allâh Who does that), Able to give life to the dead? (Yes! He is Able to do all things).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Has He no power to give life to the dead?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Is not He (Who doeth so) able to bring the dead to life?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Has not He, (the same) the power to give life to the dead?
