Verse : 001
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was not a thing worth mentioning?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : There has come upon man a period of time in which he was nothing worth mentioning.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing–(not even) mentioned?―
Verse : 002
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We have created man from Nutfah (drops) of mixed semen (sexual discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer and seer.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have created man from a mixed sperm-drop to put him to a test; then We made him able to hear, able to see.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: so We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.
Verse : 003
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have shown him the way to be either grateful or ungrateful.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).
Verse : 004
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have prepared, for the disbelievers, shackles and iron-collars and a blazing Fire.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For the Rejecters We have prepared Chains, Yokes, and a Blazing Fire.
Verse : 005
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like Unto camphor.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, the Abrâr (the pious and righteous) shall drink of a cup (of wine) mixed with (water from a spring in Paradise called) Kâfûr.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed, the righteous will have a drink from a goblet, blended with (a drink from) Camphor
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of water of Kafur,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur―
Verse : 006
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allâh will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That will be a spring from which Allah’s servants will drink, making it flow (wherever they wish) profusely.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance.
Verse : 007
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They (are the ones who) fulfill their vows, and fear a day whose evil (events) will spread far and wide,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide.
Verse : 008
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (the poor), the orphan, and the captive,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And they give food, out of their love for Him (Allah), to the needy, and the orphan, and the captive,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan and the captive―
Verse : 009
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (Saying): “We feed you seeking Allâh’s Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Saying to them,) “We feed you only for the sake of Allah; we have no intention of (receiving) either a return from you or thanks.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (Saying) “We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.
Verse : 010
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : “Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislike to it).”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In fact, we are fearful of a day, from the side of our Lord, that will be frowning, extremely malignant.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord.”
Verse : 011
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So Allâh saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadhrah (a light of beauty) and joy.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So Allah will save them from the evil of that day, and will grant them bloom and delight,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and a (blissful) Joy.
Verse : 012
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And will give them, in return for their patience, Paradise and (garments of) silk,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk.
Verse : 013
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Wherein they will be reclining on couches, feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun’s (excessive heat) nor (the moon’s) excessive cold.
Verse : 014
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And shades of gardens will be hanging low on them, and their fruits will be placed totally under their command.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit) there will hang low in humility.
Verse : 015
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Circulated among them will be vessels of silver, and cups that will be (as transparent as) crystals,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal―
Verse : 016
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Crystals (as shining as if made) of silver, measured by those (who filled them) with due measure.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes).
Verse : 017
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And they will be given to drink there of a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabîl (ginger).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And they will be served with goblet of a drink blended with ginger,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil―
Verse : 018
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : From a fountain therein, named Salsabil.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A spring there, called Salsabîl.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Acquired from) a spring therein called Salsabil.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : The water of a spring therein, named Salsabil.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A fountain there, called Salsabil.
Verse : 019
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And there shall go round Unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And circling around them will be serving boys, blessed with eternal youth; when you would see them, you would take them as scattered pearls.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There, serve them youths of ever lasting youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): if thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls.
Verse : 020
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When you will look around there, you will see the Bliss and a magnificent realm.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent.
Verse : 021
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Upon them will be garments of green sundus (a kind of fine silk), and of istabraq (a kind of thick silk), and they will be adorned by bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink:
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Upon them will be Green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy.
Verse : 022
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (And it will be said to them): “Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted.”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : This is a reward for you, and your effort has been appreciated.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised.”
Verse : 023
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! it is We Who have revealed Unto thee the Quran, a gradual revelation.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, It is We Who have sent down the Qur’ân to you (O Muhammad SAW) by stages.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed we have revealed to you the Qur’an through a gradual process.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We, even We, have revealed unto thee the Qur’an, a revelation;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is We Who have sent down the Qur’an to thee by stages.
Verse : 024
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore persevere thou with the commandment of thy Lord, and obey not thou of them, any sinner or ingrate.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Therefore be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with costancy to the Command of your Lord (Allâh, by doing your duty to Him and by conveying His Message to mankind), and obey neither a sinner nor a disbeliever among them.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, be steadfast patiently in (obeying) your Lord’s command, and do not obey any one of them who is sinner or ungrateful.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So submit patiently to thy Lord’s command, and obey not of them any guilty one or disbeliever.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Therefore be patient with constancy to the Command of thy Lord, and hearken not to the sinner or the ingrate among them.
Verse : 025
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And remember thou the name of thy Lord in the morning and in the evening.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And remember the Name of your Lord every morning and afternoon [i.e. offering of the Morning (Fajr), Zuhr, and ‘Asr prayers].
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And pronounce the name of Allah morning and evening.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Remember the name of thy Lord at morn and evening.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And celebrate the name of thy Lord morning and evening
Verse : 026
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And during the night – worship Him; and hallow Him the livelong night.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And during night, prostrate yourself to Him (i.e. the offering of Maghrib and ‘Ishâ’ prayers), and glorify Him a long night through (i.e. Tahajjud prayer)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And in some parts of night prostrate yourself before Him, and pronounce His purity for long times at night.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And worship Him (a portion) of the night. And glorify Him through the livelong night.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And part of the night, prostrate thyself to Him; and glorify Him a long night through.
Verse : 027
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those love the Herein, and leave in front of them a heavy day.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, these (disbelievers) love the present life of this world, and put behind them a heavy Day (that will be hard).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In fact these people love that which is immediate, and neglect a Heavy Day ahead of them.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! these love fleeting life, and put behind them (the remembrance of) a grievous day.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.
Verse : 028
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : It it We Who creared them and made them firm of make. And whenever We list, We can replace them with others like Unto them.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : It is We Who created them, and We have made them of strong built. And when We will, We can replace them with others like them with a complete replacement.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have created them and have made their joints strong. And whenever We will, We would replace them with others like them, a total replacement.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : We, even We, created them, and strengthened their frame. And when We will, We can replace them, bringing others like them in their stead.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : It is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; but, when We will, We can substitute the like of them by a complete change.
Verse : 029
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this is an admonition; then whosoever Will, may choose a way Unto his Lord.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, this (Verses of the Qur’ân) is an admonition, so whosoever wills, let him take a Path to his Lord (Allâh).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed, this is a reminder; so let anyone who so wishes, adopt a way to his Lord.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! this is an Admonishment, that whosoever will may choose a way unto his Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : This is an admonition: whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.
Verse : 030
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Verily Allah is ever Knowing, Wise.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But you cannot will, unless Allâh wills. Verily, Allâh is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And you will not so wish unless Allah so wills. Indeed Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Yet ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.
Verse : 031
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He maketh whomsoever He listeth to enter His mercy. And the wrong-doers! for them He hath gotten ready a torment afflective.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : He will admit to His Mercy whom He wills and as for the Zâlimûn — (polytheists, wrong-doers) He has prepared a painful torment.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He admits whomsoever He wills to His mercy. As for the wrongdoers, He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He maketh whom He will to enter His mercy, and for evil-doers hath prepared a painful doom.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : He will admit to His Mercy Whom He will; but the wrongdoers― for them has He prepared a grievous Penalty.
