Verse : 001
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Of what ask they?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : What are they asking (one another about)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : About what are they asking each other?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Whereof do they question one another?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Concerning what are they disputing?
Verse : 002
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Of the mighty Announcement,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : About the great news, (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism, the Qur’ân, which Prophet Muhammad (SAW) brought and the Day of Resurrection),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : About the Great Event
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (It is) of the awful tidings,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Concerning the Great News,
Verse : 003
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Concerning which they differ.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : About which they are in disagreement.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In which they dispute!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Concerning which they are in disagreement.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : About which they cannot agree.
Verse : 004
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! anon they shall know.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, they will come to know!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Indeed they will soon know.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but they will come to know!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily, they shall soon (come to) know!
Verse : 005
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Again, by no means! anon they shall know.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, again, they will come to know!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Again, indeed they will soon know.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, again, but they will come to know!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know!
Verse : 006
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Have We not made the earth an expanse.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Have We not made the earth as a bed,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Did We not make the earth a floor,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Have We not made the earth an expanse,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse,
Verse : 007
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the mountains as stakes?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the mountains as pegs?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the mountains bulwarks?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the high hills bulwarks?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the mountains as pegs?
Verse : 008
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have created you in pairs.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We have created you in pairs,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We have created you in pairs,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And (have We not) created you in pairs,
Verse : 009
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have made your sleep as a rest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have made your sleep as a thing for rest
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And made your sleep a source of rest,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And have appointed your sleep for repose,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And made your sleep for rest,
Verse : 010
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have made the night a covering.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have made the night as a covering (through its darkness),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And made the night a covering,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And have appointed the night as a cloak,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And made the night as a covering,
Verse : 011
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have made the day for seeking livelihood.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have made the day for livelihood.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And made the day a source of livelihood.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And have appointed the day for livelihood.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And made the day as means of subsistence?
Verse : 012
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have builded over you seven strong heavens.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We have built seven strong (skies),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments,
Verse : 013
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have set therein lamps glowing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And created a luminous lamp (the sun).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour?
Verse : 014
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And We have sent down abundant water from the rain-laden clouds,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance,
Verse : 015
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So that We bring out therewith grain and vegetation,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thereby to produce grain and plant,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables,
Verse : 016
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And gardens thick with trees.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And gardens of thick growth.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And thick gardens.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And gardens of thick foliage.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And gardens of luxurious growth?
Verse : 017
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily the Day of Sorting Out is a thing appointed―
Verse : 018
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups after groups). (Tafsir At-Tabari)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : A day when the trumpet will be blown, so you will come in multitudes,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds;
Verse : 019
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the sky will be opened, so it will become as gates,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors,
Verse : 020
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And the mountains will be set in motion, so they will be as mirage.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage.
Verse : 021
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily the Hell is an ambuscade:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Truly, Hell is a place of ambush —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely Jahannam (the Hell) lurks in ambush.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Truly Hell is as a place of ambush―
Verse : 022
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : For the exorbitant a receptacle.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A dwelling place for the Tâghûn (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allâh like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It is abode for the rebellious people
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : A home for the rebellious.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For the transgressors a place of destination:
Verse : 023
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They will tarry therein for ages.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : They will abide therein for ages,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Who will be abiding in it for ages.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : They will abide therein for ages.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : They will dwell therein for ages.
Verse : 024
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They will not taste therein cool or any drink.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will taste nothing cool in it, nor a drink,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink,
Verse : 025
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Save scalding water and corruption.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Except boiling water and pus
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Save boiling water and a paralysing cold:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold―
Verse : 026
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Recompense fitted!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : This being a punishment, fully commensurate (with their deeds).
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : A fitting recompense (for them).
Verse : 027
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They did not expect (to face) accounting (of their deeds),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds),
Verse : 028
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And they belied Our revelations with strong belying.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But they belied Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet SAW brought) completely.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And they rejected Our signs totally.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : They called Our revelations false with strong denial.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false.
Verse : 029
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And everything We have recorded in a book.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And all things We have recorded in a Book.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And everything (from their deeds) is thoroughly recorded by Us in writing.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Everything have We recorded in a Book.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And all things have We preserved on record.
Verse : 030
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So taste you (the results of your evil actions); No increase shall We give you, except in torment.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So now taste! We will add nothing to you but torment.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : “So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment.”
Verse : 031
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily for the God-fearing is an achievement.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, for the Muttaqûn, there will be a success (Paradise);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Of course, the God-fearing will have great achievement,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! for the duteous is achievement –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily for the righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the Heart’s) desires;
Verse : 032
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Gardens and vineyards,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Gardens and grapes,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Gardens enclosed, and Grape-vines;
Verse : 033
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And full-breasted maidens of equal age.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And buxom maidens of matching age,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And maidens of companions;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Companions of Equal Age;
Verse : 034
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And a cup overflowing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And a full cup (of wine).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And goblets filled up to the brim.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And a full cup.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And a Cup full (to the Brim).
Verse : 035
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They will hear therein no babble nor falsehood:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : No Laghw (dirty, false, evil talk) shall they hear therein, nor lying;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will not hear any vain talk therein, nor lies,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : No Vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth―
Verse : 036
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : A recompense from thy Lord-a gift sufficient
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : A reward from your Lord, an ample calculated gift (according to the best of their good deeds).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : This being a reward from their Lord, a well calculated grant,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Requital from thy Lord – a gift in payment –
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Recompense from thy Lord, a Gift, (amply) sufficient―
Verse : 037
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : From the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of whatsoever is in bet-ween them, the Compassionate with Whom they can demand not audience.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatsoever is in between them, the Most Gracious with whome they dare to speak (on the Day of Resurrection except by His Leave).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the All-Merciful. No one will have power to address Him,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between― (Allah) Most Gracious:― none shall have power to argue with Him.
Verse : 038
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : On the Day whereon the spirits and the angels will stand arrayed, they will not be able to speak save him whom the Compassionate giveth leave and who speaketh aright.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : The Day that Ar-Rûh [Jibril (Gabriel) or another angel] and the angels will stand forth in rows, none they will not speak except him whom the Most Gracious (Allâh) allows, and he will speak what is right.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : On the Day when the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows. They will not speak, except the one who is permitted by the Rahman (the All-Merciful Allah) and speaks aright.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and he will say what is right.
Verse : 039
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : That is the Sure Day. Whosoever therefore willeth, let him betake Unto his Lord a resort.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That is (without doubt) the True Day, so, whosoever wills, let him seek a place with (or a way to) His Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That is the Day that is sure to come. So whoever so wishes may take refuge with his Lord.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That Day will be the sure Reality: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) Return to his Lord!
Verse : 040
Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We have warned you of a torment nigh at hand, a Day whereon a man shall behold that which his hands have sent forth, and the infidel will say: would that I were dust!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We have warned you of a near torment — the Day when man will see that (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: “Woe to me! Would that I were dust!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : We have warned you of an approaching torment (that will be inflicted) on a day when one will see what his hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “O would that I had turned into dust.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: “Would that I were dust!”
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near― the Day when man will see (the Deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say “Woe unto me! Would that I were (mere) dust!”
