Verse : 001

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : He frowned and turned away.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (The Prophet (SAW)) frowned and turned away,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : He (the Prophet) frowned and turned his face,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He frowned and turned away
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The (Prophet) frowned and turned away.

Verse : 002

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Because there came Unto him a blind man.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. ‘Abdullâh bin Umm-Maktûm, who came to the Prophet (SAW) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Because the blind man came to him!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Because the blind man came unto him.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).

Verse : 003

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : What could tell you (O prophet about the prospects of the blind man?) May be, (if you had attended him properly,) he would have attained purity,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But what could tell thee but that perchance he might Grow (in spiritual understanding)?

Verse : 004

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Or have received the advice, and the advice would have benefited him.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?

Verse : 005

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient-
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : As for the one who does not care (about faith),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : As for him who thinketh himself independent,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : As to one who regards himself as self-sufficient,

Verse : 006

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Unto him thou attendest.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : To him you attend;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : You are anxious to pursue him,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Unto him thou payest regard.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : To him dost thou attend;

Verse : 007

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allâh)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : While there is no blame on you, if he does not attain purity.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).

Verse : 008

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And as for him who cometh Unto thee running,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But as to him who came to you running
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : As regards the one who has come to you rushing eagerly,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,

Verse : 009

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And he feareth-
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And is afraid (of Allâh and His Punishment),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : While he fears (Allah),
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And hath fear,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And with fear (in his heart)

Verse : 010

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Him thou neglectest!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : To him you pay no heed!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : From him thou art distracted.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Of him wast thou unmindful.

Verse : 011

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! Verily it is an admonition.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (this Qur’ân) is an admonition,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Never! (you should never act in this way,) Indeed this (Qur’an) is an advice.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:

Verse : 012

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : So whosoever willeth-let him be admonished therewlth.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, whoever so wills may pay heed to it.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : So let whosoever will pay heed to it,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Therefore let who will, keep it in remembrance.

Verse : 013

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Inscribed in Writs honoured,”
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : It is (recorded) in those scripts (of the Preserved Tablet) that are honoured,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On honoured leaves
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour.

Verse : 014

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Exalted, Purified,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Exalted (in dignity), purified,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Exalted, purified,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Exalted, purified,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,

Verse : 015

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By the hands of scribes.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In the hands of scribes (angels).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In the hands of those scribes
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (Set down) by scribes
Eng-Yusuf Ali : (Written) by the hands of scribes―

Verse : 016

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Honourable and virtuous.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Honourable and obedient.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Who are honorable, righteous.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Noble and righteous.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Honourable and Pious and Just.

Verse : 017

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Perish man! how ungrateful he is!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Damned is the man! How ungrateful he is!
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful is he!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Woe to man! what hath made him reject Allah?

Verse : 018

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Of what thing hath He created him?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : From what thing did He create him?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : From which stuff did He (Allah) create him?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : From what thing doth He create him?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : From what stuff Hath He created him?

Verse : 019

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : From a drop of semen! He created him, and designed him in due proportion,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;

Verse : 020

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then the way He made easy.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then He makes the Path easy for him;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then He made the way easy for him,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then maketh the way easy for him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then, doth He make His path smooth for him;

Verse : 021

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Later, he made him die, and put him into grave,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then causeth him to die, and burieth him;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then, He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his Grave;

Verse : 022

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Thereafter, when He will intend, He will raise him up.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then, when it is His will, He will raise him up (again).

Verse : 023

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By no means He performed not that which He had commanded him.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : No! He has not yet fulfilled what He (Allah) had commanded him.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah Hath commanded him.

Verse : 024

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Let man look at his food:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then let man look at his food,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, the man should consider his food,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Let man consider his food:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then let man look at his Food, (and how We provide it):

Verse : 025

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : It is We Who pour forth water, pouring,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : We pour forth water in abundance,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : How well We poured water,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : How We pour water in showers
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For that We pour forth water in abundance,

Verse : 026

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We split the earth in clefts,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then how nicely We split the earth,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Then split the earth in clefts
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And We split the earth in fragments,

Verse : 027

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then We cause therein the grain to grow,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And We cause therein the grain to grow,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then We grew in it grain,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And cause the grain to grow therein
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And produce therein Corn,

Verse : 028

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And grapes and vegetables
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle),
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And grapes and greens,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And grapes and green fodder
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And Grapes and nutritious Plants,

Verse : 029

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And olives and palms
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And olives and date-palms,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And olive and date-palms,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And olive-trees and palm-trees
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And Olives and Dates,

Verse : 030

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And enclosed gardens luxuriant.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And gardens, dense with many trees,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And gardens, full of thick trees,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And garden-closes of thick foliage
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees

Verse : 031

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And fruits and herbage:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And fruits and herbage.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And fruits and fodder,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And fruits and grasses:
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And Fruits and Fodder―

Verse : 032

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : A provision for you and for your cattle.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : As a benefit for you and your cattle.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Provision for you and your cattle.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For use and convenience to you and your cattle.

Verse : 033

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then when cometh the Deafening Cry-
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then, when there comes As-Sâkhkhah (the second blowing of the Trumpet on the Day of Resurrection) —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So when the Deafening Noise will occur,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But when the Shout cometh
Eng-Yusuf Ali : At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise―

Verse : 034

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : That Day shall a man flee from his brother,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : The Day when one will flee from his brother,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On the day when a man fleeth from his brother
Eng-Yusuf Ali : That Day shall a man flee from his own brother.

Verse : 035

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And his mother and his father,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And from his mother and his father,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And from his mother and father,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And his mother and his father
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And from his mother and his father.

Verse : 036

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And his wife and his sons;
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And from his wife and his children.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And from his wife and sons,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And his wife and his children,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And from his wife and his children.

Verse : 037

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Every one of them will be too engaged in his own affairs to care for others.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.

Verse : 038

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Faces on that Day shall be beaming
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islâmic Monotheism).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Many faces, on that day, will be bright,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On that day faces will be bright as dawn,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Some Faces that Day will be beaming.

Verse : 039

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Laughing, rejoicing.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Laughing, rejoicing,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Laughing, rejoicing at good news;
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Laughing, rejoicing.

Verse : 040

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And many faces, on that day, will be stained with dust,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And other faces that Day will be dust-stained;

Verse : 041

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Dust shall cover them
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Darkness will cover them,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Covered by darkness.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Veiled in darkness,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Blackness will cover them:

Verse : 042

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad SAW, etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Those are the disbelievers, the nefarious.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the Doers of Iniquity.
