Verse : 001

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Hath there come Unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Has there come to you the description of the Overwhelming Event?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Has the story reached thee, of the Overwhelming (Event)?

Verse : 002

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Faces on that Day shall be downcast,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Many faces that day will be humbled,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,

Verse : 003

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Travailing, worn.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allâh), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Laboring, exhausted.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Toiling, weary,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Labouring (hard) weary―

Verse : 004

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They shall roast into the scalding Fire,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : They will enter in the hot blazing Fire,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will enter into the scorching fire.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Scorched by burning fire,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The while they enter the Blazing Fire―

Verse : 005

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : They will be given to drink from a boiling spring,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : They will be made to drink water from a boiling spring.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Drinking from a boiling spring,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,

Verse : 006

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : There will be no food for them except from a thorny plant
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
Eng-Yusuf Ali : No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari

Verse : 007

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : That will neither nourish, nor satisfy hunger.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

Verse : 008

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Faces on that Day shall be de lighted,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Many faces that day will be full of glamour,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : In that day other faces will be calm,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Other) faces that Day will be joyful.

Verse : 009

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : With their endeavour well pleased.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Well pleased with their endeavor,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Glad for their effort past,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Pleased with their Striving―

Verse : 010

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They shall be in a Garden lofty:
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : In a lofty Paradise
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In a lofty garden,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : In a high garden
Eng-Yusuf Ali : In a Garden on high,

Verse : 011

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : They shall hear therein no vain discourse;
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In which they will not hear any absurd talk.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Where they hear no idle speech,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:

Verse : 012

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Therein shall be a spring running!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Therein will be a running spring,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In it there is a flowing spring.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Wherein is a gushing spring,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Therein will be a bubbling spring:

Verse : 013

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Therein shall be couches elevated!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Therein will be thrones raised high,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : In it there are elevated couches
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Wherein are couches raised
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,

Verse : 014

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And goblets ready placed!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And cups set at hand
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And goblets, well placed,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And goblets set at hand
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Goblets placed (ready).

Verse : 015

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And cushions ranged!
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And cushions set in rows,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And cushions, arrayed
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And cushions ranged
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And Cushions set in rows,

Verse : 016

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And carpets ready spread,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And rich carpets (all) spread out
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And carpets, spread around.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And silken carpets spread.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And rich carpets (All) spread out.

Verse : 017

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Look they not at the camels, how they are created?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, do they not look at the camels how they are created,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?―

Verse : 018

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And at the heaven, how it is raised?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And at the heaven, how it is raised?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And at the sky, how it is raised high,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the heaven, how it is raised?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And at the Sky, how it is raised high?

Verse : 019

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And at the mountains, how they are rooted?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And at the mountains, how they are rooted (and fixed firm)?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And at the mountains, how they are installed,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the hills, how they are set up?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And at the Mountains How they are fixed firm?―

Verse : 020

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And at the earth, how it is outspread?
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And at the earth, how it is outspread?
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And at the earth, how it is spread out?
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the earth, how it is spread?
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And at the Earth, how it is spread out?

Verse : 021

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : So remind them (O Muhammad (SAW)) — you are only a one who reminds.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, (O Prophet,) keep on preaching; you are only a preacher.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Therefore do thou give admonition for thou art one to admonish.

Verse : 022

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Thou art not over them a warden.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : You are not a dictator over them —
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : You are not a taskmaster set up over them,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Thou art not at all a warder over them.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Thou art not one to manage (men’s) affairs.

Verse : 023

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve –
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Save the one who turns away and disbelieves.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But whoever turns away and disbelieves,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But if any turn away and rejects Allah―

Verse : 024

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then Allâh will punish him with the greatest punishment.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Allah will punish him with the greatest torment.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment.

Verse : 025

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Verily Unto us is their reckoning.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Verily, to Us will be their return;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Surely towards Us they have to return,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : Lo! unto Us is their return
Eng-Yusuf Ali : For to Us will be their Return;

Verse : 026

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then verily on us is their reckoning.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then it is Our job to call them to account.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And Ours their reckoning.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
