Ash-Shams (THE SUN)

Verse : 001

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : By the sun and its morning brightness,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the sun and its brightness;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : I swear by the sun and his broad light,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : By the sun and his brightness,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour;

Verse : 002

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : and by the moon when it follows it,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the moon as it follows it (the sun);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the moon when she follows him,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the moon when she followeth him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Moon as it follow him;

Verse : 003

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : by the day when it glorifies the sun.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the day as it shows up (the sun’s) brightness;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the day when it shows his brightness,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the day when it revealeth him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Day as it shows up (the Sun’s) glory;

Verse : 004

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : by the night when it envelops the sun.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the night as it conceals it (the sun);
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the night when it envelops him,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the night when it enshroudeth him,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Night as it conceals it;

Verse : 005

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : by the sky and Him Who built it,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the heaven and Him Who built it;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the sky, and the One who built it,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the heaven and Him Who built it,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure;

Verse : 006

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : by the earth and Him Who stretched it forth,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : By the earth and Him Who spread it,
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the earth, and the One who spread it,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the earth and Him Who spread it,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Earth and its (wide) expanse;

Verse : 007

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : by the soul and Him Who proportioned it,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul), and Him Who perfected him in proportion;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And by the soul, and the One who made it well,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And a soul and Him Who perfected it
Eng-Yusuf Ali : By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;

Verse : 008

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : and inspired it with its impurity and purity,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him;
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Then inspired it with its (instincts of) evil and piety,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;―

Verse : 009

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : surely blissful is he who has cleansed his soul,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allâh ordered, by following the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : Success is really attained by him who purifies it,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Truly he succeeds that purifies it,

Verse : 010

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : and miserable is he who has buried it.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allâh has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism or by following polytheism or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds)
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And failure is really suffered by him who pollutes it.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And he fails that corrupts it!

Verse : 011

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : The Thamud belied in their exorbitance,
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Thamûd (people) denied (their Prophet) through their transgression (by rejecting the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism, and by following polytheism, and by committing every kind of sin).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : The People of) Thamud denied the truth because of their transgression,
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,
Eng-Yusuf Ali : The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing.

Verse : 012

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : when the greatest wretch of them rose up.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel).
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : When rose up the one who was most wretched of them.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : When the basest of them broke forth
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Behold the most wicked Man among them was deputed (for impiety).

Verse : 013

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then the messenger of Allah said to them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : But the Messenger of Allâh [Sâlih (Saleh) A.S.] said to them: “Be cautious! (Fear the evil end). That is the she-camel of Allâh! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!”
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : So, the Messenger of Allah said to them, “Be careful of Allah’s she-camel and her right to drink.”
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink!
Eng-Yusuf Ali : But the messenger of Allah said to them: “It is a She-camel of Allah! and (bar her not from) having her drink!”

Verse : 014

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : Then they belied him and hamstrung her; then their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it common.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak)!
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : But they rejected him and killed her, so their Lord sent eradicating torment upon them because of their sin, and made it equal for all.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and razed (their dwellings).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!

Verse : 015

Eng-Abdul Daryabadi : And He feared not the consequences thereof.
Eng-Dr. Mohsin : And He (Allâh) feared not the consequences thereof.
Eng-Mufti-Taqi-Usmani-Audio : And He has no fear of its consequence.
Eng-Pickthal-Audio : He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).
Eng-Yusuf Ali : And for Him is no fear of its consequences.
